High vs. Low: Board Shorts

This summer some of us may be hitting the beach with the sole purpose of getting that perfect golden tan, but those of us that are more athletically inclined will no doubt be engaging in some sportier activities than just laying out. For all of the sporty fashionistas out there (or even those who just want to cover up in between tanning sessions) there's no better option than boardshorts. Just slide on a cute pair and get ready to surf, swim and strut. But the best part is that you'll look stylish without having to worry about any embarrassing "wardrobe malfunctions" as you ride the waves. Time to check out our high and low picks. Now, which is which?

Summer Fashion: Jewelry-Bedecked Shoes

Sandals with a little bling have been on the radar for the last couple of summers, but we're not tired of them yet -- not by a long shot. We recently did a look for less on embellished flip-flops, and our budget-conscious point of view, we think some bejeweling on our feet is just the thing to kick up a basic summer ensemble without dumping a bunch of cash into something too frivolous. Oh, and bejeweled doesn't have to mean tween-worthy sequins and beads -- we're seeing more and more metallic chain and link-type details, which might better suit the more subtle among us. The best part is that you can get 'em on the cheap -- our favorite phrase, by the way. Some of-the-moment options we've got bookmarked for when the change jar is full:

Women's Xhilaration Tressa Thong Sandals, Fuchsia, $14.99

Chinese Laundry Kali Jeweled Thong, $44.95, DSW

Women's Rhinestone Thong Sandal, $10.92, Wal-Mart

Bandolino Inka 3, $49.95, ShoeBuy.com

Raine Sandal Wedge (also in wide width), $19.99, Payless

What: A new design is hitting the aisles at H&M next month: a black and white sporty dress designed by a contest winner on The Sims 2 video game, according to the LA Times. The designs, walked down a virtual runway, were judged by H&M's designers in Sweden. The winning dress is moving from the TV screen to the hanger.

What We Say: That dress is actually very cute! We've played The Sims before--who knew it could become a business venture....

Buy One, Get One: Sunglasses at NY and Co.

What: Buy 1 Get 1 Free-- probably one of our favorite things to hear a salesperson utter. Right now, buy one pair of sunglasses at New York and Co. and get a second pair for free. Sale ends July 12.

What We Say: Sunglasses are necessary to protect our eyes from harmful UV rays, but they're also one of those accessories that we keep needing to buy more of--we lose them, we scratch them, and they fall into the unreachable areas of our cars.....
